In the wake of the Covid epidemic, an Apple store in Texas has closed
According to NBC News’ Zoe Schiffer, Apple closed one of its retail stores in Southlake, Texas on Wednesday after several of its employees contracted COVID-19. According to NBC News, an official told employees on Wednesday that 22 employees “said they were positive for COVID-19,” and four of the 151 store workers reported positive cases just after Black Friday. The store will be closed until Sunday.
Apple official policy requires retail employees to wear face masks and respond to a COVID-19 investigation before going to work. They should also be tested frequently for COVID-19: unvaccinated workers should be tested twice a week, and vaccinated workers should be tested once a week.
The NBC News report highlights some disturbing trends regarding Southlake’s location. One employee said he previously raised concerns about his inability to maintain social distancing. He and another employee said the store was packed “shoulder to shoulder” on Black Friday. And a Southlake store manager apparently asked employees to come over even though they had made themselves sick:
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Schiffer reported this month for The Verge that many frontline Apple employees find the working conditions untenable.
An Apple Store in Texas is temporarily closing due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases among employees. Apple Southlake Town Square will be closed until the end of this week due to the outbreak, according to an NBC News report. The report explains that the Southlake Apple Store has been facing an outbreak of COVID-19 cases among staff members, with at least 22 positive cases since Black Friday on November 26. The store has 151 employees in total.
Most Apple employees will return to offices as part of a hybrid work pilot project starting February 1. The company initially announced its hybrid work plans in June with plans to return in September, but this was postponed to January and then February. Facebook’s parent company, Meta, also recently updated its return-to-work policies. Offices will reopen fully on Jan.31, but staff may delay returning for three to five months. Apple’s third-generation AirPods have a new design with shorter stems, and they now look like AirPods Pro. Sound quality has improved with new support for audio head spatial tracking. The battery life is also better and it is rated IPX4 for its resistance to water and sweat. If your AirPods are getting old and it’s time to upgrade, the AirPods 3 won’t disappoint.
