Sunday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., begins at 9:30 a.m. Holy Communion is served in a continuous line with a wafer placed in your open hand and wine or grape juice in a small cup. Gluten-free wafers are available for those with allergies. Reverend Nancy Moore presides. Vicar Sarah Moore attends.

The awarding of scholarships to university-bound students and seminarians is included during worship time. There will be the commemoration of Florence Nightingale with the blessing of the medical and EMS personnel present on Sunday morning. Vicar Sarah Moore’s one-year internship is coming to an end. There will be farewells and a Godspeed before she returns to the campus of United Lutheran Seminary, Gettysburg.

The Trinity Thrift Store is open without reservation. Shopping and drop-off hours are Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donation deposits are accepted during store hours, limited to five bags or boxes. The pantry continues to be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and third Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.) with an open-air drive-in service and precautionary measures in place. Residents in need who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive prepackaged supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at the time of pick-up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

For those wishing to schedule a baptism or apply for Trinity membership, please contact the church office to register for the 11:30 a.m. instruction sessions for the month of August. The baptism class will not take place in August. A preview for potential new members is held on the fourth Sunday with Pastor Moore.

Trinity Lutheran Church was built in 1873. Plans are underway to celebrate this milestone throughout 2023. You are invited to contribute ideas at a planning meeting after worship on August 21.

A note regarding the status of the Illini4000 bike team pedaling across America to raise awareness and fund cancer research. They called at Lehighton in late May, 129 miles on their way. The team reached its destination, San Francisco, last weekend. After 75 days, they’ve cycled 4,600 miles and raised $130,000.

An update on 2017-19 Trinity Vicar Richard Bergen: He has accepted a calling and is serving St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 470 Church Hill Road, Ferndale, AP South East Synod. He will be ordained Sept. 10, 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA, 19446. Bishop Patricia Davenport presides. There is a large parking lot. Transportation is your responsibility. However, if you plan to go, please RSVP ahead to Trinity, Lehighton, to let the host church know.
