Premiere: asvanyviz2 – online

Budapest-based label Exiles Electronics is a port of call for anyone who likes to sneak around the corners of Bandcamp, unearth undocumented artists and provide them with a home for their releases. Their latest EP, ‘brain fog‘ from Hungarian non-binary producer asvanyviz2, does just that.

asvanyviz2’s music is symptomatic of the digital/online music cultures lurking in the murky waters of Soundcloud profiles and NYP Bandcamp uploads: harsh genreless beats shatter the surface of emotional maturity and instability, passing ambient gabber hybrid club workouts with touches of breakcore percussion litter the background. Their EP for Exiles is built from a period of intense brain fog (hence the title), where the artist forged every rare and abstract thought traversing the quagmire in the five tracks.

terminally ill‘ is our pick from their EP – the glitched weightlessness, akin to the old-fashioned internet modem mistakenly hooking up to a biological mainframe, is gradually blurred by a melodic bassline that’s both understated and anthemic. That alone could have been an adept track, but asvanyviz2 takes it a step further, turning it into a breakcore workout that emphasizes pressure-inducing G-force and intensity. The track, usually brief for the artist, nevertheless completes every statement he sets out to make with eloquence and character.

“Brain Fog” is slated for April 25 via Exiles Electronics. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
