Talking about converting audio and video files in the middle of 2022 may sound old, like things from another era, but as unusual as this activity is today, it is no longer interesting to at least know how to do it from basic way, just in case the need arises.

The fact is that although the current changes in content consumption seem to have left the processing of media files behind, or left it for uncommon occasions or user profiles, there are currently more tools than ever to do it without getting too complicated.

So for convert video audio files, convert between formats, it is understoodthere are applications of all kinds: specific applications with a multitude of options, more generic applications but with said capacity, cross-platform applications, web services… There is everything, but since it is about don’t complicate your life…

How to Convert Audio and Video Files with VLC

Indeed, why be dizzy when, except for special needs, converting audio and video files with VLC is the easiest that you can put in your face. And it is that this veteran and popular media player is used for much more than just playing content. For example, a button.

VLC is one of the prides of free software for having become the reference in its category, but before that it is a first-class tool: for PC it has always been one of the most appreciated readers because it offered all the necessary compatibility by default so as not to leave you in the lurch; and also for Android is highly recommended.

On this occasion, however, we are left with the desktop version (Linux, mac, Windows) of VLC, which will allow us to convert audio and video files more easily and quickly without complications. Because… who hasn’t installed VLC on their PC, just in case? Well that.

For the example with which to illustrate this tutorial and since the conversion of audio and video files is as generic as there are multimedia formats on the market, we will content ourselves with converting music in FLAC format without losing quality in MP3, with loss of quality, but more compatible with all types of players and more manageable because it weighs less. In stages:

It has no loss: we open VLC and the menu “Medium > Convert…“.

In the “File” tab we add with the “+Add» the files we want to convert (audio or video, but not both at the same time). Then, “Convert / Save(the additional “Show more options” options are used to sync audio or video and will not be needed most of the time).

In the drop-down menu of “Profile» the destination file type is chosen and in the key button access to more options.

And continuing with our example, in the “Audio Codec” tab, we can choose a specific codec, as well as bitrate, sample rate, and even apply filters.

How to Convert Audio and Video Files with VLC

What if instead of audio you convert video? All the previous steps are the same, but the video codec options change.

Finally, just apply the changes for the conversion to begin.

How to Convert Audio and Video Files with VLC

In short, converting audio and video files with VLC is very easy. Moreover, in many cases it will be enough to choose the few options mentioned, since almost everything is well preconfigured so that the most common conversions consist of little more than pressing the next button. In any case, you can try touching the settings until you get the desired result. Keep in mind only one thing: reducing the quality can be done, increasing it is not possible, and that is that where it does not exist, it cannot be obtained.

Analog Devices, Inc. Price and EPS Surprise

Analog Devices, Inc. price-eps-surprise | Analog Devices, Inc. Quote

Factors to note

Analog Devices should have benefited from a strong demand environment in the automation, instrumentation and customer sectors during the first fiscal quarter.

Strength in signal processing solutions for hearing aids, wearables and professional audio/video may have boosted the company’s performance in the consumer market in the quarter ahead.

Growing traction in battery management systems technology and automotive audio bus solution likely boosted ADI’s performance in the automotive market during the fiscal first quarter.

The company’s extensive instrumentation business, including automated test equipment, electronic testing, and measuring and scientific instruments, is expected to have contributed to its quarterly performance.

The strengthening of the 5G momentum in North America should have contributed well to the growth in turnover during the quarter under discussion. Additionally, the transceiver platform for the 5G and O-RAN ecosystem may have benefited the communications business during the quarter.

Additionally, the company benefited from the acquisition of Maxim Integrated. Maxim’s power management solutions should have continued to help ADI’s performance in the quarter ahead.

Still, a constrained supply environment due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is likely to have remained a major headwind in the quarter under review. Also, the sluggish Chinese wireless market should have been a concern.

In addition, rising selling, general and administrative and research and development expenses likely hurt the company’s profitability.

Technology continues to evolve at breathtaking speed as the world becomes increasingly digital and attendees demand more engaging and creative ways to connect both in person and online. We sat down with four industry leaders to get their take on the event technology trends of 2022: Julius Solaris, VP of Marketing Strategy, Events, Hopin; Cathy Song Novelli, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Hubilo; Josh Hotsenpiller, CEO, JUNO; and Sarah Soliman, President and CEO, Soliman Productions. Read on for their valuable tips!

Jules Solaris

1. Data to drive engagement

Engagement and data are two concepts that have been floating around in the industry for decades without any real substance to support how to engage stakeholders and the role data plays in delivering better experiences.

Little has changed. The industry has gone digital. Virtual events are now part of most event programs. Virtual gives a plethora of data which [event professionals] can use to make better decisions. That’s great, but there’s a shared sentiment to go beyond vanity metrics and embrace deeper data points that can actually provide actionable insights.

At Hopin, we see data at the heart of the virtual, hybrid and in-person engagement revolution. [Event professionals] use data strategically to make better decisions that ultimately deliver better experiences. The correlation between stakeholder engagement and event success is obvious to those who measure accurately. This data-driven movement will potentially disrupt the industry, surpassing accepted best practices. Only decisions based on data will make sense.

2. In-person Virtual Impacts

The collective online experience of the past two years has had a profound impact on how we attend in-person events. No one wants to attend an hour and a half in-person opening session. This is a direct result of our exposure to faster online formats. Short and punchy content is best. The attention span is shorter than ever.

The binge of screen time also changed participants’ priorities. In-person attendees will prioritize connection and entertainment over content. Online audiences are drawn to TV-style experiences, where they have a voice and the ability to interact with other attendees and speakers.

[Event professionals] face the need to create two separate experiences for hybrid events, but the platforms that get it will provide the ability to create one event and cater to two audiences, at least in the background, where to have one platform shape makes a lot of sense in finding economies of scale.

3. Move from hybrid events to a hybrid event strategy

We are overcoming the obsession with having synchronous hybrid events at all costs. Synchronous or asynchronous. Hybrid events do not need to occur simultaneously on different channels. An event brand could decide to host in person, digital, or both. The future is where, when and how we want to attend. Be ready at every touchpoint with the best possible experience. This does not mean that the synchronous experience will disappear.

Two concepts we love about Hopin are inclusion and sustainability. These are the reasons why hybrid events will remain relevant beyond the pandemic. In-person events with a digital component are more inclusive than just in-person events, and they are a direct way to minimize the impact of unnecessary travel and increased waste produced by in-person events.

Cathy Song Novelli

1. Asynchronous hybrid events

What’s really exciting right now are asynchronous virtual and hybrid events – rethinking time and space. With the real growth of virtual, the biggest benefit is that it allows people to come in and out based on what works for their schedule, so it’s much more accessible to everyone. Event organizers are really trying to take this to the next level, so it’s not one event at a time. It might be in different countries, and it’s a show, where you might have a few versions of an event live or at different times with regional speakers. So you can literally have the same playbook and then do it again in London and Singapore, for example, with different speakers talking about the same topics so it’s more relevant to the market

2. More immersive experiences

Virtual and hybrid events really push the boundaries in terms of immersive experiences, so you feel like you’re there. There’s a desire to want to jump into the metaverse but it’s not scaleable yet because most people don’t have augmented reality or virtual reality equipment at home so people are starting to play with more green screen technology, for example. There’s a lot more innovation with audio and video productions to make you feel like you’re there in person with hybrid touchpoints to really unify online and offline. People are reinventing what’s possible and redefining the landscape, and I’m excited to see more events this year that look and feel completely different.

Josh Hotsenpiller

1. Mixed and fuzzy experiences

When you think of the metaverse, at its core, you bring two things together: the physical and digital worlds. The more you can blur the lines, not separate the lines, the more connection you can create, and that means creating environments where it doesn’t matter whether you’re here or there, we experience it together.

2. Increase intelligence and usefulness

There will be more intelligence for the user’s profile, and the more we get to know the user, the more usefulness and value there will be. When you think of the mainstream apps like Dropbox, Google Maps, and Spotify, for example, they offer incredible utility and value, whether through automation or AI, and [event tech platforms] will do the same.

3. Better monitoring of the value proposition throughout the year

When you look at what makes an event or association work, it’s connection and engagement. This is the value proposition. For so long, we spent so much time making sure we really delivered that for four or five days for an event. But then what happened in this new wave is that people realized that we were connected all the time now through video and so on. So, the third trend is to create more solutions to deliver our year-round connection and engagement value proposition on one platform. .

Sarah Suleiman

1. Hybrid multi-site simulcast events

The hybrid will evolve and transform because people will become more creative with how they want to meet. One thing that excites and excites me the most is a multi-city simulcast type experience that is not limited to pre-recorded content. These are real presentations that happen in real time in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Orlando, for example, and bring it all together seamlessly. We’ve done a few events like this throughout the pandemic where we were producing multi-city simulcasts that felt like a type of broadcast news storyline but within an event. Seeing how events will continue to evolve this way is really exciting.

The year 2021 saw a drastic increase in programmatic ad spend as the industry continued to grow worldwide. According to one study, programmatic buying reached nearly $455 billion in ad spend in 2021 as more advertisers seek to achieve better results.

The future of programmatic advertising is exciting as the industry will continue to grow with estimated ad spend expected to accelerate to nearly $524.31 billion in 2022. As the world of programmatic advertising moves towards major changes, what does 2022 really hold in store for us?

1. Supply Path Optimization (SPO)

Although SPO has been around for a while, it has only recently gained popularity. The SPO will be a major axis in 2022 because it simplifies the supply chain between advertisers and the various publishers, who would otherwise have intermediaries.

SPO allows buyers to streamline their partners to access inventory. By giving media buyers the ability to bid and win inventory at the most reasonable price, SPO enables publishers to maximize their long-term revenue.

2. Demand Path Optimization (DPO)

Unlike the SPO, the DPO aims to recognize the buying factor of impressions instead of selling. The DPO, if combined well with the SPO, can actually help advertisers establish better terms and transparency with the brands/companies they can potentially buy ads from.

DPO offers the ultimate win-win situation for publishers by increasing revenue and reducing risk from ad tech vendors, becoming a trend to watch in the coming year.

3. Programmatic Audio

As the name suggests, this is the use of programmatic advertising technology that automates the sale and insertion of advertisements into audio content using a process very similar to display advertising. This is done through podcasts, digital radio and/or music streaming services.

Last year saw an increase in digital audio with a weekly increase in podcast listening of 17% since last year. Spotify has seen a 30% increase in ad-supported monthly active users since last year, reaffirming the belief that audio could be the new video.

The year 2022 will see a huge increase in programmatic audio due to growing interest from publishers and the availability of the right technology and standards to deliver it.

4. Rise of contextual advertising

Contextual advertising makes it possible to match the content of the web page with that of the ad. This focuses on creating a seamless user experience by focusing on screen content rather than individual users.

As data privacy laws become more stringent, contextual advertising is set to gain popularity as it solves all personal data issues. The coming year should see an increase in contextual advertising with more effective deployment, better metrics and insights.

5. A world without cookies

Google’s plans to stop supporting third-party cookies by the end of 2023 will end nearly two decades of data-driven, performance-targeted advertising.

The industry has taken the first step towards a cookie-free world, with brands and marketers now working on user-centric solutions that drive results while focusing on privacy regulations. This will cause substantial disruption in the industry, with a focus on content-based advertising instead of focusing on cookies.

It’s clear that 2022 could prove to be an exciting year for the industry, with change and disruption in every possible way. It could really define how the industry progresses.

What could really be the most defining trend for the future of programmatic advertising is the journey to a world without cookies. This journey will be driven by focusing on the data marketers already have and use that data to create opportunities and deliver personalized, relevant experiences to the right users.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA – The Orange County Clerk-Recorder will now offer virtual wedding services amid an increase in COVID-19 cases in Southland.

Virtual services will be by appointment only and available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Offering wedding services online was done as a way to reduce clutter and minimize potential exposure to COVID-19 at the clerk’s office, county officials said in a statement.

Orange County has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases fueled by the omicron variant of the coronavirus. Hospitalizations exceeded 1,000 patients and the county recorded more than 11,000 new cases on Wednesday, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

“I am determined to continue to serve everyone who needs our services,” said clerk-recorder Hugh Nguyen. “It gives me great pleasure to be able to serve couples who need to take extra care during these uncertain times.”

Couples who wish to take advantage of virtual wedding services must meet several requirements.

Requirements include:

  • Couples must be on the same video call and be physically within the state of California
  • Have a device capable of audio and video conferencing
  • Couples must have two working email addresses
  • Be able to email the marriage license to the celebrant on the day of their appointment
  • Each person must have a valid government-issued photo ID
  • Couples must be able to purchase a marriage license and have a wedding ceremony on their date.

For more information, contact the Registrar-Recorder’s office at 714-834-2500 or visit the OC Recorder website.

Stanislav Vishnevskiy, left, and Jason Citron, co-founders of Discord, at the offices of the social hub in San Francisco, December 20, 2021. Six years after Citron reduced its unsuccessful online game to its chat role and l Named Discord, it has exploded in popularity with young people who socialize on it through text and audio and video calls in groups called servers.

In 2015, Jason Citron, a computer programmer, was struggling to break into the video game industry. The new multiplayer game he had created with his development studio, Hammer & Chisel, was not catching on.

Citroën thus organized an abrupt about-face. He fired his company’s game developers, made the game’s chat feature his only product, and gave it a mysterious name: Discord.

“I think back then we had maybe six users,” Citron said. “It wasn’t clear it was going to work.”

At first, Discord was only popular with other players. But more than six years later, driven in part by the pandemic, it has exploded into the mainstream. As adults working from home flocked to Zoom, their kids downloaded Discord to socialize with other young people via text and audio and video calls in groups called servers.

The platform has more than 150 million active users each month – up from 56 million in 2019 – with almost 80% connection from outside North America. It has grown from gamers to music lovers, students and cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

In September, San Francisco-based Discord said it was raising $ 500 million in funding, valuing the company at $ 14.7 billion, according to PitchBook, a market data provider. It more than doubled its workforce in 2021, to around 650 people.

The evolution of Discord into a mainstream tool was an unexpected turn in Citron’s career. Citron, 37, said he grew up playing video games on Long Island, almost failed to graduate from Full Sail University in Florida because he spent so much time playing World of Warcraft and that he had his first date with his future wife in an arcade.

“So many of my best memories have come from these experiences, so my whole career has been about empowering others to create these kinds of moments in their lives,” he said.

Before Discord, he ran a social games network, OpenFeint, which he sold in 2011 to a Japanese game company GREE for $ 104 million. Citron was viewed by other members of the gaming community as innovative as it tried to keep players’ attention through social interactions with their friends, a new strategy in the burgeoning mobile gaming market.

“At least he’s trying to bring something new to the market,” said Serkan Toto, game analyst in Japan, adding that Citron’s reputation was “like a geek, in a good way.”

Today, Citron finds himself leading a leading communications platform, a change he described as “surprising, wonderful and humiliating.”

Discord is divided into servers – essentially a series of chat rooms similar to Slack’s work tool – that facilitate informal and fluid conversations about games, music, memes, and everyday life. Some servers are large and open to the public; others are by invitation only.

The service has no ads. It earns money through a subscription service that allows users to access features like custom emoji for $ 5 or $ 10 per month. Discord also started experimenting in December by allowing some users to charge for access to their server, up to $ 100 per month, of which the company is taking a 10% discount.

Discord made over $ 100 million in revenue last year, according to a person familiar with the company’s finances who has not been authorized to discuss it publicly, but company officials have not. meant if it was profitable.

The most significant change in the business came at the start of the pandemic. In June 2020, Citron and its co-founder and CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy wrote a blog post acknowledging that Discord has gone beyond video games and is striving to become more accessible to everyone. Months earlier, the company had changed its motto from “Chat for gamers” to “A new way to chat with your communities and friends,” a nod to its wider audience.

This transition was accompanied by growing pains. Discord has faced the same thorny questions other social media companies have about regulating speech, protecting against harassment, and keeping young people safe.

Discord allows people to chat using fake names, and the task of making sure people live up to its community’s standards is largely left to the organizers of the individual Discord servers. It makes the platform feel like ‘Lord of the Flies’, with groups of young people forming online companies and deciding their own rules.

In 2017, white nationalists gathered on far-right Discord servers to plan the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Discord executives, although they knew white nationalists were on the platform, only banned them after the rally, according to the New York Times.

In the process, the company has become more serious about moderation of content. Citron said about 15% of the company’s employees work on trust and security. The company started publishing semi-annual transparency reports in 2019 and banned those under 13 from Discord.

In its most recent report, Discord said it received more than 400,000 reports of misconduct between January and June, about a third of which were related to harassment, and had banned more than 470,000 accounts and 43,000 servers.

The company’s efforts did not end frequent problems. Those interviewed for this story, including some who were 11 or 12 years old, said they knew many underage Discord users. And an internet search of eating disorders communities on Discord, for example, found dozens of servers, some explicitly encouraging people to develop eating disorders, in violation of Discord’s community guidelines.

The company said it takes “immediate action” when it encounters violations such as underage users or inappropriate content.

Many say they joined Discord for healthier reasons, like connecting with friends. Larger public servers, like those dedicated to Minecraft chats or anime, have hundreds of thousands of members. They can be chaotic, with colorful memes, profanity, and jokes inside.

Others are only for people who know each other in real life or share a particular interest. Some have strict rules prohibiting profanity, graphic content, or political discussion. Server owners can delegate moderators to enforce the rules.

Clément Leveau, 21, has a powerful role on Discord: the owner of Kanye, a server hosting discussions on the eponymous artist, music, pop culture and other topics with more than 58,000 members.

Leveau, a student from New York City, wields ultimate authority, with the power to appoint moderators and imprison people who break community rules in an isolation channel known as jail. He said he tries to “let people play the fool, have a place to relax,” but he does not tolerate hate speech or bullying. Due to the isolation caused by the pandemic, Leveau said, the connections people have formed on Discord have become crucial.

Former Discord employees, investors, and gaming industry watchers say Citron has remained uncompromising in its vision of Discord as an independent business as it has grown.

Joost van Dreunen, a professor at New York University who studies the video game business, said staying independent would suit Citron’s tight control over the company, which has seen some high-ranking executives leave in recent years.

When it comes to revenue at Discord, the company said its rapid growth resulted in parts of its business changing “dramatically” in a short period of time, which sometimes meant “the skills and scope the work we needed with our management team also changed. just as quickly.

Earlier this year, Discord had talks with Microsoft over an acquisition that could have exceeded $ 10 billion, according to people briefed on the talks who were not authorized to speak publicly about it. The case did not succeed. (Microsoft declined to comment.)

Citron has repeatedly declined to comment on conversations with other companies, saying only there is “a lot of interest” in Discord. He didn’t want to say if he was considering taking the company public, but said that “there are only a few ways this stuff can happen.”
