Considering she’s sold more vinyl than anyone else in the past year, it’s only fitting that Taylor Swift was named the first-ever Global Ambassador for Record Store Day 2022, which encourages music fans to support their local independent music retailers.
Record Store Day 2022 will take place on Saturday, April 23 and will mark the 15th annual installment of the event, which features limited edition vinyl records that you can only buy at your local independent record store.
“I am very proud to be this year’s ambassador for Record Store Day. The places where we go to roam, explore and discover new and old music have always been sacred to me,” Taylor said in a statement.
“Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster the passion for music. They create settings for live events. They employ people who love music thoroughly and purely,” she continues. “These people and stores have had a tough few years and now more than ever we need to support these small businesses to make sure they can stay alive, stay quirky and stay individual.”
She adds: “It has been a real joy for me to see vinyl sales increase over the last few years and we artists have to thank the fans for this pleasant surprise. Happy Record Store Day everyone! Stay safe there.
According to MRC Data, three of Taylor’s albums made it to the list of the 10 best-selling vinyl albums of 2021. In 2020, Taylor provided signed copies of her albums to independent stores to encourage fans to visit, and also did donating money to help keep Nashville Grimey’s record store afloat.
The list of exclusive releases for this year’s Record Store Day will be announced soon.
