[Updated] Hulu audio not working on iPad app after iPadOS 15.4.1 update
New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….
The original story (published April 23, 2022) follows:
Hulu is one of the most widely used streaming services. It is available on multiple platforms for easy access.
Hulu also boasts of offering plenty of live channels and original content at an affordable price. Hulu is currently part of the large multimedia conglomerate Disney.
One of the ways to access Hulu content is through its dedicated app. The Hulu app is available for mobile devices and tablets, such as Apple iPads.
Hulu app audio not working on iPad app after iPadOS 15.4 update
According to multiple reports, all Hulu content plays without audio on iPad tablets. The problem is said to have started after the iPadOS 15.4 update and remains on the latest iPadOS 15.4.1 update.
Other streaming services would work fine on the iPadOS 15.4 update. Moreover, audio from the Hulu app also works well on other devices.
No sound after iOS update
So latest iOS 15.4.1 update stops audio working on Hulu on my iPad, everything else works audio Netflix YouTube Amazon., Hulu deleted reinstalled, hardboot tried everything, headphones work but no audio with Hulu video content, don’t even get Hulu sound when launching the app.
Same issue here with iPad Air2 after 15.4 upgrade, as Hulu audio works on all other Steaming services. Apple says the issue should be resolved by Hulu. Longtime customer, but considering dropping the service if this can’t be resolved…although I have other streaming devices, my iPad is what I use most often to stream Hulu.
Hulu team already aware, potential workaround
The Hulu team is already aware of the Hulu app audio issue that iPadOS 15.4/15.4.1 users are facing. The company is currently investigating the matter, but there are no details on an ETA for a possible solution.
Sorry to hear you’re running into this, Jennifer! This behavior may be related to something we are currently investigating. When you have a second, please call or chat following the instructions at: https://hulu.tv/ContactSupport- so we can take a closer look with you 1:1!
In the meantime, there is a potential workaround which is to stream Hulu content to another device and then switch back to the iPad. After that, Hulu content picks up the audio, but you’ll need to do this every time you launch Hulu.
PS As other users in this thread have pointed out, you can get the sound working again by casting to another device (i.e. Apple TV then back to iPad), but that’s is a pain because you have to do it every time you launch Hulu. There must be some low-level hardware/software interaction with the iPad Air2 and the app to cause this.
We will update this story as events unfold.
Update 1 (April 27)
12:50 p.m. (IST): Here is a potential workaround provided by one of the affected users. You can try to see if that fixes the audio problem.
Update 2 (April 28)
5:47 p.m. (IST): Here is another workaround that might help affected people fix the audio issue.
AirPlay to another device, then back to iPad. This will fix the sound. If you don’t have an AirPlay compatible device like me, download Mirroring360 for Windows and stream it with a free trial. You have to do this every time you open a stream’s start though…. I hope this helps you. (Source)
Update 3 (May 10)
4:25 p.m. (IST): While users continue to report (1, 2, 3, 4) the issue where content plays without audio on iPad devices, Hulu still supports said that they are working on a fix for the same. However, they did not provide any ETA for the patch.
