W3C Announces Web Audio API as Official Standard
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has made Web Audio APIâWhich focuses on the creation and manipulation of music and audio â an official standard. This JavaScript API is “for creating, shaping and manipulating sounds directly in a web browser.” It is already widely deployed for the creation of music and sound effects on web pages, for the creation of musical instruments online, for web games, and for collaborative works of art such as sound installations.
Web and application developers can use it to create resources such as “auditory feedback in user interfaces, musical instruments, soundtracks and effects for entertainment and games, education, spatial audio for augmented reality and virtual reality, in-line audio editing applications, crossfading and compression for in-car music management, audio analysis and visualization.
