World Book Day sees children parade through schools dressed as their favorite literary characters – from Harry Potter to the Hobbit.

Each year, schools in 100 countries around the world take the time to encourage and celebrate the wonders of reading.

Children are given tokens for £1 books and the school day can be focused on book-themed activities and lessons.

But when will World Book Day 2022 take place, and what is the theme?

When is World Book Day?

World Book Day 2022 will take place on Thursday, March 4.

The page-turning event always takes place on the first Thursday in March in the UK.

Other countries around the world celebrate this day on different dates.

To mark 25 years of reading, the message addressed to all children is “you are a reader”.

How to Use £1 Pound Tokens

Every child under 18 will receive a £1 book token to mark World Book Day.

The tokens will either be sent directly to your home, via email, or distributed by your child’s school – you must contact the school to find out how you will receive them.

These £1 book tokens, from National Book Tokens Ltd, can be redeemed for a range of limited edition books written for the day, or redeemed for the cost of a full-priced book.

The brand new 2022 range includes 14 books which can be bought for just £1 – these are also available in Braille and audio via the RNIB.

This year’s lineup includes Dinosaur roar and friends! by Peter Curtis Jeanne Willis, My very very very very very very very very idiot delivers true or false by Matt Lucas, and boy, gone by Sophie McKenzie.

How to participate in World Book Day?

In addition to the school activities, World Book Day will host all four online events on the official YouTube channel.
